Humans of Laker Nation: Alex Poppink

Geoffrey Giannetti

Q: Who is your idol?

A: “So throughout my life, I have been very interested in space, and the explanation of space. And one of the most prominent figures throughout my life has definitely been Neil DeGrasse Tyson. He’s always seemed like an interesting dude.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?

A: “In five years, probably still in college. I will definitely be doing a master’s in astrophysics. So, that will definitely take me a long time.

Q: What is your ultimate goal?

A: “What I wish I’d done with my life. I think by then I definitely want my name established as a successful astrophysicist. Someone who has, you know, discovered a topic that hasn’t been discussed before, or has shown people a new way of seeing things.

Q: How do you plan on reaching that goal?

A: “For me, definitely a lot of work. Cause, I have a long way to go until then. In order to be really established in my field, I would have to have a lot of years of school, PhDs, definitely a major requirement for it.”

Q: What is something that defines who you are?

A: “I love music, and even though I’m mainly a science guy, music is kinda what keeps me entertained, keeps me motivated and moving forward. It’s just so… when you understand music and the way it works, it just changes your whole concept of everything. It’s just a whole universal language in itself, and it’s so fun to play and listen to.
