With its first year under new direction at a close, the West Bloomfield High School MIFA team has a lot to be proud of. After Mark Johnson left the school, MIFA was in a frenzy to find a new director who could lead the talented cast and crew to victory. Thankfully, they found that special talent in Bailey Boudrou, a local actor and director who joined as leader of the company last October.   Naturally there were nerves about the cast as a man they did not know took over a program they hold so dear, and with the love the cast had for Mr. Johnson, Bailey had some big shoes to fill. In February of 2014 at Avondale High School he proved he could lead the group as the company walked onstage to claim their first place award at the state level competition. Videos are posted all over facebook of the company’s reaction to the good news. For seniors, this was their first time in first place whether this was their first year or their fourth and final. “My favorite memory from The Survivor was when I was driving back to our hotel after we had just finished our show, and my truck was full of people and all we did was scream and sing songs from the radio while our windows were rolled down” says senior Nick Kisse about his favorite MIFA memory . For many in the company, they share a favorite moment of winning states this past season “I just had a feeling that we could not have performed the show any better that night” said senior Adam Rozenberg. The show follows the struggle of Jews living in the ghetto during the holocaust. This hard hitting drama featured a strong supporting cast, led by junior Maxim Vinigrodav. Among the actors were seniors Josh Palmer, Tyler Ekeizien, Erika Lowenthall, and Claire Joliffe. Through starvation, oppression and death these proud Jews fight for their right to live. This forty minute play was well received, both by audiences at their dinner theater performance and by judges. “The Survivor reminded me of why I do theatre” said one judge at the state level. Congratulations to Seniors: Nick Kissie, Alison Zywiki, Adam Rosenberg, Kyle McDermott, Sam Kadien, Baily Kadien, Josh Palmer, Zach Levine, Olivia Von Opel, Samantha Rothe, Claire Jolife, and Tyler Ekizien on their MIFA successes.
