As their final year draws to a close, the Orchestra of West Bloomfield High School says goodbye to a special program at the school, some of whom have been a member for all four years now. From today’s pop hits to classic film scores, the West Bloomfield High School Orchestra has done it all, bringing beautiful melodies and songs to life for all those fortunate enough to be in attendance. For some, this year was only the beginning of a four year journey into music, but some will be taking their final bows. This year, the Orchestra will be seeing 4 seniors depart from the program as they head off to college. Among them are Liz Gardner, Miranda Hakim, Sarah Chang and Phillip Sylvester.

“I have been in orchestra since I was in fifth grade, so eight years including all four years of high school” says senior Miranda Hakim, a four year member of the High School Orchestra Program. She continued “I’ve always really enjoyed learning about new music and composers I would not know of before and playing their pieces.” Over the years Orchestra have played it all with different themes each year that help them select what pieces to do. Some of these have included classic film scores such as Brave and musicals like Wicked and Les Miserables.

“Music has always been a huge part of my life” says  Gardner, another four year member of the program. “This program has given me the opportunity to explore my love of music through these amazing pieces of music. It’s all been an amazing learning experience.” Throughout their years the seniors have worked hard every class under the direction of Mrs. Trotter and have improved their skills in music drastically through hard work, dedication, and love of music.
