West Bloomfield High School’s (WBHS) winter sports teams played to their full potential as they faced their opponents. Even though the temperature was low outside, the games inside the arena were sizzling hot. WBHS’s Basketball and Wrestling athletes’ hard work and dedication was on full display as they tackled many tough opponents this week.
On Monday, December 29th, the WBHS Varsity Basketball team conquered Walled Lake Central (WLC). Center, Zach Allread (senior) racked up 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double/double. Also with a double/double, point guard, Trishton Jackson (junior) recorded 34 points and 10 rebounds. These athletes’ outstanding performances led their team to a victory over WLC with a final score of 65-56.
On Saturday, January 3rd, the WBHS Varsity Wrestling team hit the mats in a Varsity Invitational meet which involved 12 other schools including Bloomfield Hills High School, Ferndale High School, Fraser High School, Groves High School, Lamphere High School, North Farmington High School, Royal Oak High School, St. Mary’s Preparatory School, U of D Jesuit High School, Walled Lake Northern High School, Waterford Kettering High School, and Waterford Mott High School. The Lakers took a solid 4th place in the meet. Justin Hollins (senior, 285 lbs), Matt Gudeanu (senior, 140 lbs), and Deshawn Cole (senior, 160 lbs) placed first, while Mark Kamash (sophomore, 112 lbs) took third.
Even though only two different sports were in action this week, the WBHS athletes provided much to cheer about this holiday weekend. Tune is next week for another Laker sports update.
