Laker athletics had quite a slow week as they were transitioning into the spring sports season from winter sports. Look forward to boys and girls Lacrosse, girls soccer, softball, baseball, and track and field.
The WBHS Girls Freshman soccer team kicked off the spring sports season on Friday and took on the JV team from Eisenhower High School(EHS). The team suffered a 2-0 loss, but the WBHS girls were not discouraged as it was their very first game together and against a JV team. The Girls Varsity soccer team also ignited their season with a tournament at WBHS on Saturday. The Lakers went head to head with Lakeland High School (LHS) in their first match, but unfortunately WBHS could not find the back of the net and fell, 1-0. The girls were fired up and ready for vengeance against their next competition. They came out strong and played with much more intensity in the second game against Dexter High School (DHS) to finish with the 3-2 victory. Goals were scored by Alice Wilson (senior), Corey Flynn (senior), and Celine Foster (sophomore). The Lakers’ final competition of the day was Ladywood High School (LHS). Despite many shots on goal, WBHS was unable to pull through and score losing, 2-0. Despite the Laker’s 1-2 record on the day, they played fairly well for their first three games together. The Girls JV and Varsity soccer teams look to take on Walled Lake Northern at home on Wednesday, February 18th.
The Boys Basketball team hit the court against rival Walled Lake Western on Monday in a Class A District match. The game remained a nail bitter throughout and the match came down to the final seconds. In the final seconds the game fell apart for the Lakers and after some very controversial calls WBHS’ boys basketball season was ended in a 54-52 loss. Zach Allread gave it his best in his final game in a WBHS uniform with 17 points. The Lakers finished the season on a solid 18-3 record.
The WBHS Winter Drumline team dominated at the Michigan Color Guard Circuit (MCGC) Invitational on Saturday to take an outstanding 1st place. The drumline looks to take the stage at MSBOA State S&E on Saturday, March 21st.
