This week on Laker Sports Line

To kick it off, the Varsity Hockey team took the ice against Troy High School on December 9th. The Lakers battled a hard fought game and stuck it out until the final few minutes against the Colts. Drew Warnecke (senior) scored a goal for the Lakers, but, despite their fantastic efforts, they suffered a 1-3 loss. Two days later, December 11, the Lakers went head to head with the Mount Pleasant Oilers. They came out looking to bounce back from their loss a couple days ago, and they came out strong against the Oilers. Josh Ramsey (junior) scored a goal for the Lakers, but once again it was not enough to keep them ahead to secure the win. The Varsity Hockey team was fed up with the back to back losses, and on December 12, a Saturday afternoon, the Lakers stormed the ice hungry for a win. They trailed Jackson Lumen Christi by three, but quickly put an end to that with goals scored by Cam Dickinson (senior), who largely helped his team with a 5 point night with 4 assists Drew Warnecke, and Nick Brouillard (junior). Adding to the Lakers’ total goals was Josh Ramsey (junior) chipping in 3 of his own for a hat trick.  They went into over time in a tied game, 6-6. The Lakers battled hard and eventually JD Long (junior) was able to clutch the OT goal to put the Lakers on top to capture the victory. There has been much improvement over the past couple days and they will continue to improve as the season progresses.

The Lakers had a slow start against Dakota High School but were able to turn their performance around in the second half. The Lakers outscored 24-17 in the third quarter and were able to get closer to Dakota. They scored two more points in the final quarter but could not come any closer to them. Even though the Lakers lost by 6 points, a close game, West Bloomfield had three stick-out players: Trishton Jackson (Toogie, senior) with 28 points, Kevin McAdoo (junior) with 19 points, and Gervon Winn (senior) scored 16 points. December 12, the following day, the Lakers had a better turn out against Southfield Christian High School with a close final of 77-76. The Lakers were up by 9 at the end of the first quarter, 24-13. By halftime, the tides had turned with Southfield Christian only down by 3. The final minutes were perhaps the most exciting, as the Lakers trailed by 5. Toogie stole the ball and followed with a lay up to shrink the point gap from 5 behind to 3. The Lakers executed 1 out of 2 foul shots and came even closer, only 2 points away with 30 seconds on the clock. The next SC possession, WB stole the ball back again and Toogie shot a buzzer-beater to tie it up. In OT, SC drained 2 3-pointers and went up 6 points. The Lakers battled back and Davion Johnson (junior) obtained the lead with a 3 pointer. This was enough to secure the WB win and once again, Toogie, Kevin, and Gervon were the big three with 30 points, 21 points, and 11 points.

This week was exciting for WB and more coverage is coming next week. Make sure to come back for more Lakers Sports Line!
