Crack Open A Mystery With The Book Club

Crack Open A Mystery With The Book Club

By: Moriah-Taylor  Rutherford

Members of the West Bloomfield High School  Book Club had the opportunity to meet the author of the Airborne series, Kenneth Oppel. Kenneth Oppel is a bestselling  author who has written over thirty books for all ages. The Book Club was discussing his novel,  This Dark Endeavor, a mysterious and magical monster novel that is a prequel to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Members of the Book Club were able to have an intimate conversation with this author. The meeting was full of laughter, intrigue, and pizza. According to Oppel, his writing process involves, “A lot of planning.” He wants students who read his book  to, “have fun, because it’s a book. If you’re not having fun you’re doing it wrong.” If you want to write, Oppel says, “Do it, just start writing… your first draft is going to be bad, really, but it’s a start.”  The Book Club’s next book is Winger by Andrew Smith.
